Beer of the Week 81 - 8/10/2011: Mikkeller Beer Geek Brunch Weasel
Ah yes, the infamous “cat poop” beer.  You read that right.  Based in Denmark, Mikkeller currently makes some of the most interesting and experimantal beers out there.  This is no exception.
From the brewer: “This imperial oatmeal stout is brewed with one of the world’s most expensive coffees, made from droppings of weasel-like civetcats. The fussy Southeast Asian animals only eat the best and ripest coffee berries.  Enzymes in their digestive system help to break down the bean.  Workers collect the bean-containing droppings for Civet or Weasel Coffee.  The exceedingly rare Civet Coffee has a strong taste and an even stronger aroma.  Ingredients : Water, malts, hops, yeast and Vietnamese ca phe chon coffee.”
Incredible fruity coffee flavors and aromas.  It is a more berry-like coffee than what I think we are used to.  Really intesne beer, but one of the best, and most unique, coffee beers I have ever had.  If you can get past the fact it is brewed with this unique ingredient, it is well worth the treat.  For more on the coffee and these little animals, check out these links:
