Beer of the Week 95 - 11/16/2011: The Lost Abbey The Angel’s Share (Bourbon Barrel Aged)
Another beer to warm you up in the cold weather!
Lost Abbey is known for having some quality barrel aged beers out there.  They are also known for having a LOT of quality control issues, i.e. no carbonation (flat beer) or way too much carbonation (corks flying out with beer gushing all over the place).
This one fell slightly into the no carbonation category, BUT, it was much better than the flat mess that was the Brandy Barrel Aged version (see Beer of the Week 24).  Great aromas of bourbon, vanilla and oak mixed with dark fruits covered in toffee and caramel.  A big beer at 12%, this one warms you with flavors of bourbon, dark fruits like dates and raisins, and buttery toffee.  The alcohol comes through for sure, but it’s nothing too offensive at all.  If it wasn’t for the absurd price ($22) for a 375ml bottle, I would revisit this one.  But with the chance that one might have a quality control issue, I’ll spend my money on a sure thing.
