As a law student on both a budget and a diet, I decided to indulge once a week in my love for craft beer. The result was a weekly ritual involving an in depth look into the specific beer I chose. Beer of the Week 99 - 12/14/2011: Midnight Sun Brewing Co. TREAT (Imperial Chocolate Pumpkin Porter)
99th Beer of the Week! Which means only one thing; next week is the big 100. I will be breaking something extremely rare and special next week, so definitely stay tuned.
I have been trying to get my hands on a bottle of TREAT for as long as I can remember. It’s been pretty hard since this beer is brewed in Alaska and not many people really feel like shipping all the way out here. BUT, I finally made it happen! This beer has almost everything I would want in a winter beer; chocolate, pumpkin, holiday spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, etc). The smell on this was awesome. Deep rich chocolate covered pumpkin pie came to mind. The pumpkin was more the pie spice integration than the actual flesh of the pumpkin (See Pumking). BUT, it still was a really well done porter. Rich dark chocolate, nutmeg and cinnamon, and some light pumpkin flavors as well. Absolutely what I wanted this beer to taste like. Plus the label is pretty cool!
