Beer of the Week 103 - 1/11/2012: Goose Island Bourbon County Brand Stout (Vintage 2009)
To celebrate the start of my last semester of law school, I decided to open something I’ve been saving for a special occasion.
Bourbon County Stout is a monster of a bourbon barrel aged beer weighing in at 13% ABV. By far, this was the most bourbon forward barrel aged stout I have ever had. Very sweet notes of bourbon, vanilla, and woody, oak undertones. Chocolate and dark fruits come through as well. But the bourbon is really the star of the show here. A very sweet beer that has a nice smooth, creamy feel to it. Even with two years in the cellar, this one still has a pretty strong alcohol bite. Worth checking out if you have a sweet tooth.
